Your bedroom should be a personal sanctuary that allows you to recharge and revitalize. Having a well designed bedroom is not only important for the aesthetics but it’s also important for comfort, wellness, and productivity. When investing in your bedroom, I recommend focusing on four key areas: bedding, decor, lighting, and storage.
Luxurious Bedding.
Investing in high-quality bedding is one of the most important upgrades you can make for your bedroom. After all, you spend roughly a third of your life in bed, so it makes sense to ensure you have luxurious linens that help you sleep better and wake up feeling refreshed! From an interior design perspective, investing in luxurious bedding is well worth the cost for both aesthetic and functional reasons. Beautiful and well-made sheets, comforters, and pillows can transform an ordinary bedroom into a stylish and inviting haven. But more importantly, the superior comfort that luxury bedding provides makes a real difference in the quality of your sleep, leaving you more refreshed and recharged each morning. Don’t stress about pulling together an elaborate bedding design either because you cannot go wrong with an all white bedding set! It’s easy to clean and sets the stage for decorative pillows and blankets!
Room Darkening Shades or Drapes.
From an aesthetic standpoint, room darkening shades can enhance interior design goals by providing privacy and a seamless look when fully drawn. They allow homeowners to control how much natural light enters a room while maintaining a clean and uninterrupted view of wall surfaces. This produces a more curated and sophisticated ambiance, particularly when coordinating shade colors with other design elements. Additionally, room darkening shades allow you to achieve better sleep by creating a truly dark sleeping environment. Sunlight and other light sources disrupt our natural circadian rhythms and can make falling and staying asleep more difficult. By blocking out all light infiltration, these window treatments help promote better quality sleep and rest. Remember, window treatments are not just for functional purposes. They serve an amazing purpose but also give you an opportunity to show some personality in your space through color and pattern!
Lighting on Dimmers.
Dimmers offer several benefits for lighting in bedrooms. They allow for more flexibility and control over the amount of light, which is important for creating the right ambiance and avoiding disruption during sleep. Dimmers allow for a gradual transition that is more comfortable and does not shock the eyes. In the morning, you can slowly increase the light using the dimmer to gently wake up. In the evening, you can dim the lights gradually to signal that it is time for sleep. This more natural transition of light levels can help promote better sleep quality. In addition, dimmers give you more options for setting the perfect mood. You can adjust the lights to create a calming and relaxing atmosphere that helps ease you into sleep. Softer, dimmed lighting can make the bedroom feel more cozy and intimate for reading or talking before bed. Being able to control the light levels precisely with a dimmer allows you to fine tune the lighting to suit your needs and preferences at any given time.
Storage to Keep Everything out of Sight.
A properly organized and clutter-free bedroom is essential for creating a relaxing and restful sleep environment. However, achieving this often requires ample storage solutions to effectively conceal everyday objects and belongings. As an interior designer, I always emphasize the importance of incorporating sufficient storage options in the bedroom to minimize visual clutter. Some key reasons to have adequate storage in the bedroom relate to improving the aesthetics, functionality and overall ambiance of the space. When all visible surfaces are clear of clutter, the room appears more spacious, orderly and put-together. This can help promote a sense of calm and tranquility! Storage solutions like built-in closets, nightstands with drawers, under-the-bed storage bins, and wall-mounted shelves provide functional places to neatly organize and put away clothing, shoes, accessories, paperwork, books, electronics and other miscellaneous items. This allows the bedroom to remain clutter-free which in turns helps the mind stay clutter free!
